Tuesday August 12
7:00pm Welcome party at Beach Palapa and cocktails at the main Pool.

Wednesday August 13
2:00pm to 6:00pm Registration
7:00pm: Welcome cocktail and Captain’s Meeting (Mandatory Participation)

Thursday August 14
6:00am: Boats may leave from Marina Puesta del Sol
8:30am Lines in

5:00pm: Weigh In begins
6:15pm: All Boats must have passed the first red buoy at the entrance of the estuary.
6:30pm: Poolside Cocktail

Friday August 15

Saturday August 16

  • All boats must report to Tournament Control for both their departure from and their return to the Marina.
  • Any boat that leaves before or returns after the designated time will be disqualified for the day.

Points for different species

 

Marlin: Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, or Striped Marlin.  Release 500 points.

Sailfish: Release 100 points.

Fun Fish: Eligible Species: Dorado, Wahoo, Tuna.

Winner:  Biggest single fish caught over the 3 days of the tournament.

Minimum Weight of eligible fun fish: 30 lbs.

Rules

 

  • IGFA rules apply to the entire event with any additions and/or modifications indicated in the rules distributed for this tournament.
  • We will distribute a copy of the official IGFA rules to all participating teams during the Captain’s Meeting.
  • All awards will be given per team (per boat).  There will be no awards given per species or per individual angler.  The prizes will be awarded to the top team (boat) according to the overall accumulation of points over the 3 days of the tournament.
  • Line Test: the line strength shall not exceed 80 lbs.
  • Bait: trolling with dead bait, or lures are acceptable.
  • Hooks: Anglers are required to use tournament-legal, non-offset circle hooks if using natural bait, or if using a combination of natural bait and lure.
  • Anglers: A maximum of 5 anglers per boat are permitted.  Teams may substitute their anglers for the 2nd and 3rd days of the tournament; but must advise Tournament Control before the 6amdeparture time.  Of the 5 only one may be a professional angler.
  • Weigh Station: The weigh station will open at5:00pm and close at 6:30pm, or when all fish that have arrived to the weigh station prior to 6:30pmhave been weighed.
  • The weigh station will mark all fish after they are weighed in.
  • Radio: a VHF repeater channel will be available for Official Tournament Use between the participating boats and Tournament Control.  Other channels should be used for communication between boats. the channel will be announced at the Captains meeting.
  • Protocol for Reporting a Catch: All marlin hook-ups and releases must be immediately reported to Tournament Control via the official radio channel, stating the name of the boat.
  • Protocol for Reporting a Catch: All sailfishreleases must be immediately reported to Tournament Control via the official radio channel, stating the name of the boat.
  • Each boat must report to Tournament Control, via the official radio channel, the moment the fish is released.
  • Tiebreakers: In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the following rules:
    • Billfish Category: the first boat to earn the points
    • Fun Fish Category: the first boat to weigh the biggest fish
  • The transfer of fish from one boat to another is prohibited.
  • All the fishing of the tournament must be done within 57 nautical miles of the estuary entrance. The coordinates will be given at the Captains meeting.
  • Honor Code: all boats must turn in the Honor Code, signed by all anglers, at the Captain’s Meeting.
  • The Release Sheets for Marlin and Sailfish are to be filled out and signed by the Captain and the Anglers, noting the release time of each fish, the name of the Angler, the species of the fish, and also noting the date, time and confirmation number given by Tournament Control.  The release form must be signed by the Observer.
  • It is the Captain’s obligation to verify each release number that pertains to his boat.  No exceptions are permitted.
  • Verification: All boats must note their Sailfish and Marlin releases and the corresponding confirmation code on the forms that are supplied.
  • It is each Captain’s responsibility to ensure that the boat has the rules and release sheets , and that the rules are followed and the release sheets are used properly.
  • To guarantee the correct application of the tournament rules the tournament will provide an observer on each registered boat.  The international observers are experienced observers from the IGFTO.  International Game Fish Tournament Observers.

Prizes

 

Teams will be awarded based on the overall accumulation of points during the 3 days of the tournament.  The sum of money to be paid in prize money will have Nicaraguan tax retention of 10%.

Billfish Category

 

First Place: US$25,000
Second Place: US$10,000
Third Place: US$5,000

Fun Fish Category

 

First Place: US$2,500

The first place winner in the BILLFISH CATEGORY will receive a case of 18 year Centenario, the rest of the winners will receive a case of 12 year Centenario.

The winners will also receive other prizes provided by the Tournament Sponsors.

Registration cost: US$3,800 per boat, Tax included maximum of 5 anglers

Registration and entry fees received after August 2th will be subject to a 20% surcharge.

Registration and entry fees are payable by credit card only. CREDOMATIC is preferred.
